McCain picks running mate – seals doom

John McCain picked his running mate, AK governor Sarah Palin, and in doing so, showed what he really cared about was himself. He chose someone for the votes they could bring, not what they could bring to the country. McCain’s pandering is at once reprehensible and all too obvious.

Were there no candidates that were any more qualified than her? Or is McCain so arrogant that he thinks he doesn’t need a VP for anything other than vote grabbing.

Critisize Obama for lack of experience, I’ve had my doubts about him, but at least he brought someone to the table with experience,; he brought someone credible, and like McCain didn’t pander to the swing states, yet didn’t succumb to pressure to pick anyone other than who was best for the job.

McCain proved once again that with him it’ll be more of the same.

  1. From what I’ve been reading, it sounds like he picked her for her maverick image, not her experience. She’s been governor for less than two years, and before that was mayor of a dinky town outside Anchorage.

Maybe she’s very bright, and a hard worker, but only a month ago during an interview, she said she didn’t even know what the VP did, as if policy meetings and heading up the Senate were foreign concepts. Now, the VP doesn’t normally vote in the Senate, but if a vote is split 50:50 the VP’s the tie-breaker.

  2. The man, who at one time seemed honorable (if daft), now seems to be giving up that part of his image as well – or rather, showing that it was all just part of an “image.”

But I am not so sanguine about it not working. Look who got elected – TWICE!

  3. I saw on the a reference to that interview, and am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt she was trying to make a joke. she was Mayor of a town of a little over 5000 people. As governor, she presides over 600,000. Her education consists of a BA in journalism. Bush’s previous experience was as governor of Texas. At least he had more than two years before going for President (well that, and Daddy’s cronies). With the Presidency only a cancer cell away from her grasp, how can McCain possibly think she’s more qualified than Obama to become leader of the free world? Maverick image or not, a mother of five, one of which has Down’s Syndrome-yet says she puts family first, is not a viable leader outside of Alaska.

And KP, you’re right of course. After Dubya’s first term I thought a dead orangutan could beat Bush, but forgot my cardinal rule: Never underestimate the power of stupidity. Polls be damned, I don’t believe this election is as tight as they say. Republicans know intrinsically they’re in for a loss, and simply fumbling in the dark.

  4. I think his whole idea is toget people who wanted a woman as President/Vice president to his side. Of course, we already know that McCain has too many views that Bush also has…

I just want world peace, you know? I want the rainbow flag to fly over the earth…

No, wait; that’d make the world gay. But wait! The world IS weird, right? Or happy! Gay means happy! So yes; let the world by gay with joy! 😀

AS to Sarah herself, someone who doesn’t know anything about being a VP obviously doesn’t have the skills to be president.

  5. Obama: eight years experience.

Palin: two years experience. And being investigated for improper conduct in Alaska.

If the Dems are smart, they will pick up on that last part.

  6. To quote Michael Moore from his new book, Mike’s Guide to Voting, “Never underestimate the Dems ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.”

It’s their’s to lose, I hope they don’t fumble this time.

  7. Thanks for that link, Skeevy. It will be interesting to see of that’s actually her child or not. If it’s not, she has a lot of explaining to do. With some of the baggage coming out in only 24 hours of her announcement, I don’t think McCain and his staff did their homework.

  8. I don’t know if I believe it or not. From the pictures in the article neither her OR her daughter look pregnant. I just think it would be hilarious if McCain’s little gimmick pick blew the doors off his campaign within a week of going public.

I’m not going to get excited just yet, but it’s something to watch out for.

  9. I’m not sure if I believe it either, the daughter has a bit of a bulge, but it could be just fat. Still, it seems very apparent McCain didn’t do his homework for this.
